Mrs. Muys' PreK Class is implementing a hands-on experience as a part of their Pet Study! The future pet owners began their journey with Adoption Day, where each student adopted their own puppy or kitten to care for the next few weeks. The class discussed the different needs of cats and dogs beforehand and were very prepared for their new pets! Each student named their special pet and utilized their fine motor skills by making a collar for them.
Each student gave their pet "food and water" in the form of blue and brown pom-poms. Also, they made sure their pet got plenty of rest in the designer homes they decorated for them. The students even gave their pets "potty breaks" three times a day which was a brief visit to the grassy area outside the classroom for the puppies and a quick stop at the litter box with white rice litter for the kitties! This experience gave the students a sense of responsibility and helped them understand the importance of caring for animals of all kinds!
