Saving Sam!

Students in Mrs. Dixon's third grade class learned about problem solving as part of a group with the fun activity, Saving Sam!. In groups of four, students were introduced to a Solo cup turned upside down with a gummy worm on top of it, a gummy life preserver under the cup, and two paper clips to complete the task.

The mission was to work together to move the worm off the top of the cup, turn the cup over so there was access to the life preserver, and stuff the frightened worm in the life preserver to save his life! However, all moves were to be made with the paper clips and NO HANDS were allowed. The students learned an important lesson about teamwork and collaboration while having a great time!
